Small Web servers

When one thinks of "servers," large computers come to mind, but a Web server can be quite small. Here we see two Web servers manufactured by Lantronix. One has a Cat 5 twisted pair Ethernet network connection and the other a WiFi connection. (An antenna would screw into the pigtail on the WiFi-equipped server).

In the future, ZigBee and other wireless technologies will connect all sorts of small devices and sensors to networks. These networked devices will be ubiquitous, and we will take their connectivity for granted. We will not think any more about the servers inside networked devices than we think about the electric motors and CPUs in kitchen appliances or cars today.
