Speed testing services

There are many programs for testing the speed of an Internet connection. They upload and download files to test connection speed in both directions and measure latency using Ping.

Speedtest.net allows you to select the destination location for your test. A nearby destination will better measure the speed of your link to the Internet.

The Network Diagnostic Tool (using a server at Argonne National Labs) gives more information on your connection and also offers tips for speeding it up.
