Fixed, portable and mobile connections

Wireless connections may be:

Fixed: A permanent connection between two fixed points. For example, a connection between a home or office and an ISP. The antenna shown here points toward the antenna of a rural ISP.
Portable: Once the connection is established, it remains fixed. For example, you might move your laptop between WiFi LANs at home and at work. This woman is connected to an outdoor hotspot on a university campus.
Mobile: One or both of the device move while connected. For example, using a cell phone while driving or talking on an IP telephone while walking around an office building with multiple WiFi access points. Connections must be quickly broken and re-established when moving from one access point to the next.
