SWS accounts

Each student has an account and some storage space on sws.csudh.edu, a host that is used primarily as a student Web server.

You will build a small Web site on sws.csudh.edu by preparing material on your PC then transfering it to your directory on sws.csudh.edu. You will use an FTP (file transfer protocol) client to transfer your files.

Your user name on the server is the same as the name on your campus email address. For example, if your campus email address were johnsmith@toromail.csudh.edu, your user name would be johnsmith.

When you log in to transfer a file to your directory on sws.csudh.edu, you will be asked for your user name. Be sure to precede it with toronet\ because the account names and password are stored in a toronet directory server. Don't forget the slash (\).

Since my user name is lpress, I log in as:

toronet\lpress

You will also be asked for your password. It is the same as the password you use when accessing your campus email.

Once you have some content on your Web site, people will be able to see it your URL:

http://sws.csudh.edu/<your user name>

For example, my URL is:

http://sws.csudh.edu/lpress
A Web client pointed to your URL with no file name specified will retrieve and display your index.htm page.
