Director of Publicity:

Greetings! I am currently in my senior year and will graduate this summer 2007. As a member of the Accounting Society, I have gained so much insight about all aspects of the accounting field. The organization has helped me to prepare for interviews, expectations from industry to industry, and most importantly, has given me an advantage in networking with experienced professionals as well as my fellow peers. The knowledge gained will definitely be beneficial when choosing an employer. My advice to students is to get involved on campus and outside of campus. The time is NOW! Make every moment count. It is up to you to utilize your resources, and network your way to a successful career. I've learned that employers are not just looking for the academic scholar, but they are looking for the well-rounded individual with proven leadership skills in addition to academics. Being a member of the Accounting Society has allowed me to network not only with professionals in my field, it has also given me the opportunity to improve my own leadership skills while working with a great team!

My name
is Yonas Alemu. I am a senior student at CSUDH. My major is accounting. This
is my 2nd time to be an officer in the Accounting Society.
Accounting Society has given me a chance to network with different
professionals who are in the field of accounting. I have always enjoyed the
time with Accounting Society as I am working toward my goals. I recommend
all business majors to join the society because it has a lot to offer.

My name
is Araceli Velasco and I am currently a full time student working a part
time internship at a small CPA office. Some of my goals include getting my
CPA license after I graduate. Being in the accounting society has encouraged
me to become more active in activities such as seeking help for my resume
and also help in preparing myself for interviews. The accounting society has
given me exposure to meeting with professionals in the accounting field. Not
only has the society helped me with outsourcing for my career but I feel
like it also plays a big role with my dedication to my academic school work.
Araceli Velasco
Banquet Committee Member:
Tired of being an accounting clerk for the past 16 years of my life, I decided to take a break from work and accomplish my Accounting degree. Joining the Accounting Society has given me a sense of belonging to a professional society. It has helped me to realize I am no longer just a High School grad, but a soon to be professional whose higher level of education conduct is expected. The mock interviews and the networking environments have challenged me to perform as a mature, responsible, and reliable individual in the accounting field. As well as, meeting fun and interesting individuals who could, at some point, lend me a hand to advance. I joined the Society last semester, this is my last semester, and I regret I did not join earlier. The more you are exposed to professional grown ups, the more you grow professionally.

VITA Coordinator:
Hi
Everyone, as you can tell I am the VITA coordinator. I am currently a senior
and this is my third semester with the Accounting Society as an officer. I
have taken on many roles but my important one right now is
coordinating VITA. I try to find volunteers who are willing to lend their
time and knowledge to people (tax payers) who are less fortunate and cannot
afford to pay to get their taxes done. Please feel free to check out the
VITA page for more information. I believe all students whether Accounting
Majors or not should join some organization like the Accounting Society. By
being part of the Accounting Society it has opened me up to so many
opportunities I never knew were possible. It also gave me insight into the
Accounting Profession that I knew nothing about. If you join you will meet
so many professionals that can help you get the job that you always wanted
but never knew how. Most students don't realize how important it is too be a
part of an organization. Join us and see what we are all about.
