How many users per capita?

The purpose of this assignment is to point out the disparity of Internet access throughout the world and to let you brush up on your Excel skills.

We saw that there are more Internet subscribers in high-income nations than the rest of the world.

The disparity is even greater if we adjust for population, because only a small proportion of us are lucky enough to live in high-income nations.

Starting with our Internet subscriber spreadsheet, create a spreadsheet that shows the number of telephone, cellular and Internet subscribers per 100 people.

For example, as we see in the partial solution below, there are 2.83 telephone subscribers per 100 people in low income nations and 4.83 Internet subscribers per 100 people world wide.

Your assignment is to complete the per capita portion of the spreadsheet.

When you have finished, put it on your Web site, print it out, and turn it in with the answers to the following questions:

  1. How much more likely is it that a high-income person has a telephone account than a low-income person?
  2. How much more likely is it that a high-income person has a cellular account than a low-income person?
  3. How much more likely is it that a high-income person has an Internet account than a low-income person?
