The purpose of this assignment is to place the Internet in the context of other media.

Watch and be ready to discuss Shirky's talk. A few questions to think about while watching are:

What were the communication revolutions that preceded the Internet?
How does the Internet differ from earlier media?
What does he mean when he says that evenetually all media will use the Internet for carriage?
Why does he say the Great Firewall of China is facing the wrong way?
Shirky gives several examples of the ways large numbers of people have used the Internet, for example during the Chinese earthquake. What were the examples and how did he interpret each?
